Squash Blossoms!

What treasures these fickle floppy flowers are! And what to do with them?

lois_lane96 says:
"Terribly excited to have squash blossoms this week. We've
been dying to try them - here are some recipes I found that others
might enjoy!"

Thanks Christina!

Here's a link from Maggie:

I (Jen) battered them in egg wash and flour and fried them. Easy and delicious!

Maggie: "I'm thinking we should try to reuse those containers that the lettuce mix came in yesterday.  Please wash and dry them and bring them with you next week.  Hopefully they can be reused instead of trashed."

Great idea!

Question on Fruit Share

Answer: "We do not have a fruit share this year, but Sergio does grow cantaloupe and watermelon, so we will have those in our shares when they are ready."

Kohlrabi Recipes

We enjoyed eating our greens last night with an improvised recipe, based on Felipe's suggestion for making collard greens. I chopped both the collard greens and the kohlrabi greens together, along with the stems, and added them to a wok after sauteing onions and garlic in olive oil, salt and pepper. I let it cook, covered, on low, while the rest of the dinner was being prepared (~20 min) and they were yummy!

"My Oma's recipe:

peel and slice bulb, not too thin. put it in a pot.
just cover with water and boil til soft, a good half hour.
remove kohlrabi to a bowl, save the water.
add 1tbsn butter per bulb some salt n pepper, add some boil water and
flour to thicken as needed.

I make the sauce enough so that it covers all the greens, almost like
a soup.
I made it last night and had'nt had it since i was a kid in germany. a
neat way to bring back childhood."

Jen wrote an article on the CSA and Kohlrabi Pasta. Click here to go to the article.

There is an interest in adding Meat and Eggs to the CSA pick-up. Check out Jay Dine's Produce as a possibility.

The question on whether to shorten distribution hours to minimize wait time has come up. If everyone agrees, the new hours would be 4:30-6:30pm.
